FAQ

Q: Who are you guys?

A: Dorks on wheels.  A writer and an editor who constantly wonder: Do we eat to bike or bike to eat?  Okay, there’s no question–we definitely bike to eat.

Q: Are you, like, really rugged?

A: Seeing as how Mollie has never camped before and Geraldine’s writing assignments often include seaweed wraps and Frette linens, we are going to go with “No.” But we are adventurous and open-minded, and willing to sweat and get dirty – as long as there is a hot shower waiting at the end of the day.

Q: Is this whole thing just a self-indulgent escape from the rigors of everyday life?

A: No! Ok, maybe a little. But not really. We both need a break from our respective day-to-days but we could just as easily have run away to a beach resort. This is decidedly more rigorous – plus we’re hoping to gather tons of info about the South on our way. During the trip, we’ll document like mad, providing maps, city guides, interviews with local artisans, farmers, musicians, and any other interesting people we meet on the way.

Q: I’m never going to go to any of these places and I don’t own a bike. Why should I care about your blog?

A: We hope to convince you otherwise.  Until not too long ago, Mollie didn’t own a bike either, and Geraldine’s sweet ride (a Giant TCR Composite 1) sat in her office and accumulated dust.  And Geraldine knows all too well that learning to love the South takes time.  But, even if we don’t convince you to bike a buy or immediately plan a trip to Efland, NC, we think our adventures will be both entertaining and informative.  Plus, we look pretty cute in spandex.

Q: I’m vegetarian and you guys seem to get really excited about pork products.

A. We like ice cream too. And cookies.

Q: You also seem to drink a lot.

A: True. But only the good stuff.

Q: Can I come ride with you guys?

A: We’re not sure exactly how this would work, but we’re seriously thrilled about the potential of having a posse.  As we plan out our route in more detail (and post the updates), feel free to reach out to us about joining us for a leg or two.

  1. I love what you guys are doing! What an inspiration!!!

  2. I love this plan — I may even join Twitter just for your updates!

  3. correction – you look HOT in spandex

  4. This is so cool! I wish I could tag along with you guys, but will have to suffice by reading the website and following you on Twitter…incredible idea. My only real valuable recommendation at this time is that you must schedule a meal eating MD crabs while you are in the area. I grew in DC and no bikes and biscuits tour would be complete with out some beer, mallets, old bay seasoning and a bushel of crabs! My recommendation in the DC area is Bethesda Crab House (http://www.bethesdabigcrabs.com/) or if you want the best place ever, try Kauffmans Tavern (http://www.kaufmannstavern.com/) in Gambrills, MD where you must order “monster” size crabs.
